The camshaft position sensor is a vital component in any modern internal combustion engine. It effectively relays information about the rotation of the camshaft to the engine control unit, or ECU. This allows the ECU to adjust timing and fuel delivery accordingly, ensuring optimal performance and preventing engine damage.

Oil On Camshaft Position Sensor
The camshaft position sensor of the vehicle is located at the top side of the engine compartment in the vehicle. It is located to read the number of rotations of the camshaft and to make sure that the rotations of the camshaft are in sync with the rotation of the crankshaft of the vehicle and ensure the proper running of the vehicle.
The camshaft of the vehicle is situated at the top of the engine over the cylinder head and below the cover of the valve. This compartment where the camshaft is located faces oil splashes all the time.
This is because the oiling is important to ensure the lubrication of the parts that have a mechanical function in the vehicle to protect them from wear and tear. The CPS is inserted in the vehicle through an open space in the cylinder head of the vehicle.
Being located at such a place, it is only logical for the camshaft position sensor will probably be drenched. Despite the interior of the camshaft position sensor being covered completely, the exterior part of the camshaft position sensor, which is outside the cylinder head of the vehicle, must not be covered in oil.
If there is oil covering the exterior side around the edges of the CPS, either the oil seal of the camshaft position sensor is leaking, or the gasket of the engine is leaking oil.
There could be another reason why the exterior part of the camshaft position sensor might be covered in oil. If the oil ring seal is not placed properly, the oil might leak, soaking the camshaft position sensor.
